Jess Marchese was born and raised in Farmingville, New York and moved to Las Vegas in 1991 to attend the University of Nevada at Las Vegas, majoring in Criminal Justice. After college, he spent three years in law enforcement and decided to go to law school at Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego. While there, he focused on criminal law and trial advocacy classes. He was a member of the school’s mock trial advocacy team where he traveled and competed in numerous competitions. He also made the honor and high honor rolls during his attendance.
After graduation from Thomas Jefferson in 2002, he moved back to Las Vegas and took the Nevada State Bar Examination and passed on the first try. He took a job at the Las Vegas City Attorney’s Office, Criminal Division as a prosecutor where he was volunteering while waiting for his bar results. After gaining valuable experience as a prosecutor, he decided to venture out and open his own firm focusing on criminal defense and personal injury law.
Mr. Marchese has done approximately 40 jury trials both the federal and state systems. He has also done numerous bench trials and honestly has lost count at this point. His trial experience has ranged from everything to simple misdemeanors to felonies carrying a sentence of life without the possibility of parole-the highest penalty under Nevada law next to a capital sentence.
Mr. Marchese is also a member of the CJA panel in District Court of Southern Nevada. That panel consists of attorneys that must qualify and meet standards set by the Federal Judges. All members must go through a training program and be approved. After admission, the attorneys must also meet yearly education requirements by attending federal seminars. Because he has taken many federal cases, it gives him extensive knowledge of the federal system and how remarkably different it is to the state system. It has also afforded him to go to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Fransisco to argue appeals.
In his free time, Jess enjoys spending time with his wife and son. He loves sports and travels to sporting events frequently. He also likes to compete in amateur bodybuilding shows and when he’s not dieting for that, cooking comfort food!
